David said: "The last time I saw Elvis live was two days earlier he passed away. I walked into his room and he was reading his Bible. He said 'David, let me ask you a question, who am I'?

"I laughed at him and said 'well you're the king', and he said 'no in that location's only one king' equally he held up his Bible."

This was a abiding game with the star, who always corrected people when they called him past his famous nickname.

David added: "I said 'I'm going out of town I'll be back for the tour' and he said 'I just want yous to know that I love you, David. I won't always meet you again – the next time I see you will be in a college place in a dissimilar aeroplane'."

Although the words now seem chilling with hindsight, at the fourth dimension David attributed them to Elvis' obsession with spirituality and that he was speaking metaphorically.

He built up a huge library, something which his last girlfriend Ginger Alden claims had caused friction with Priscilla. When he died, Elvis was reading a volume virtually the Shroud of Turin on the toilet.

David said: "Now some say, and this is null new, 'I believe Elvis took himself out'. At present I believe Elvis knew he was on his way out, but whether he deliberately got upward that day and did that to himself I don't know."

Although reading in the bath does not sound like the behaviour of a man who knew his stop was nigh or was trying to hasten it himself, David (and fifty-fifty Priscilla) have suggested that the star was somehow complicit in his ain death.

In another interview, David explained his saddened reaction to his brother's death: "Information technology didn't surprise me because I knew that these mediations were going to go him.

"I knew that one solar day 1 of u.s. wouldn't be there to save him, because I had saved him a couple of times earlier... I approximate it was a moment when he made sure nobody could salve him."
